Nickel Alloys in the Electronics Industry (10029)

By C.R. Isleib, given at 20th Annual Connectors Interconnection Technology Symposium, Philadelphia, U.S.A., Oct 18-21, 1987. Traditional nickel-containing alloys have played an important role in electronic components. Nickel and nickel alloy wire and strip are being used extensively in electrical and electronic devices because of combinations of desirable physical and mechanical properties, including high strength at high and low temperatures, toughness, corrosion resistance, controlled thermal expansion, workability and excellent spring properties. The same outstanding combination of properties, enhanced by several newly developed alloys and processing techniques, is used and is available to today's designer of electronic components and systems.
